Geotechnical instrumentation consists of measuring the response of the ground to certain variations in the conditions of its environment, which may be due to the execution of works or natural phenomena. The supervision of the structural and geotechnical safety of structures and infrastructures during their construction and once in service, consists of measuring and controlling geotechnical and structural parameters in a continuous and real-time manner, in any type of structure or foundation.
Its objective is to monitor and control the evolution of movements, deformations, cracks and other geotechnical parameters in soils and rocks, as well as pressures and water levels in the interior of the land.
The purpose of geotechnical instrumentation at Intellitest is to determine the behavior and characteristics of the terrain to predict its evolution against loads, movements, thrusts and other actions, both natural and induced by the works. The planning of an instrumentation program requires choosing the magnitudes to be measured and the type of instruments to be used, among others we can talk about:
The frequency of the readings and the collection of the data depends on the magnitudes to be measured and the speed of the process to be controlled. The readings can be manual or automatic. The first ones are indicated in cases in which the number of sensors or points of registration is small, the periodicity in the data collection is weekly or greater and the points of readings are easily accessible.
The choice of the data collection system is conditioned by the number of sensors and characteristics of the same, frequency of readings, number of data to be treated, speed with which the treatment and interpretation must be performed, location and accessibility of the place and location of the sensors.
